In Ordway’s production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, the American Idol star Anthony Fedorov plays the role of Joseph. And this casting has many people wondering “but when Donny Osmond played the role, he wasn’t blonde.” Did you know though that the Joseph in the original cast of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat was blonde?
Let’s take a journey together through the various incarnations of Joseph. We begin in 1982 with the first ever production of Joseph and the Amazing Techincolor® Dreamcoat at the Royal Theatre. Bill Hutton played Joseph in all of his golden locks glory.
In the 1991 restaging of Joseph for London’s West End, Jason Donovan took on the role of Joseph.
In the same year, Phillip Schofield replaced Jason Donovan in the role.
A North American tour of Joseph came about in 1992 with Donny Osmond in the title role. A subsequent video version with Donny Osmond was made in 1999. As you can see, Donny Osmond was the first ever brunette Joseph (as far as we can tell).
Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat returned to England with Stephen Gately as Joseph in a small Oxford production, which eventually ended up in London’s West End in 2003.
In 2007, Joseph and the Amazing Techincolor® Dreamcoat went on tour in the UK with Lee Mead in the lead role of Joseph.
Mead left the production in 2009, and was replaced by Gareth Gates.
And this brings us to today with the Ordway’s Production of Joseph and the Amazing Techincolor® Dreamcoat, where Anthony Fedorov returns the character of Joseph to his blonde roots.
The Ordway’s production of Joseph pays homage to the original, but does so with a twist. Get ready to experience Joseph like you never have before, as the Ordway brings a whole new look and feel to this classic.
We want to hear from you!
Are you excited to see Joseph at the Ordway?

You forgot that Michael Damian played Joseph in the 1993 LA and brief 1994 Broadway production (another brunette). :-)
