A message from the Ordway; Winter weather wrap-up

Sun, Dec 12, 2010 3:02 PM by Ryan Jones

Saturday’s severe weather created a dilemma for every local theater as they decided whether or not to cancel their evening performances. The Ordway’s standing policy is that the show will go on as long as local freeways are open.  However, late in the afternoon, Metro Transit suspended all bus service and MnDOT issued an order stating that no travel was advised, even though the freeways were still open. At the same time, we also learned that some of our cast (including some of the 41 children) would be unable to get to the Ordway. In the interest of safety for our patrons, cast and crew, we therefore made the difficult decision to cancel the evening show. We posted a notice on our website, changed our phone greeting, and issued a media alert. We also made sure that Ordway staff would be at the front door to explain the situation to ticket holders who arrived at the theater.  Unfortunately, a few patrons did not hear about the cancellation and were understandably frustrated to arrive at the theater only to learn that weather had forced a cancellation. On the other hand, our 2pm show did proceed on schedule but many patrons were unable to get here, causing frustration for them as well.

The Ordway is fully committed to serving all patrons holding tickets to the Saturday performances. We will offer free exchange privileges to another performance of Joseph, which runs through January 2. Patrons may contact us online at weborders@ordway.org or by calling 651.224.4222 on Monday. We are committed to serving all Ordway patrons and deeply regret this situation that forced cancellations at nearly every venue in the Twin Cities.

Behind the Scenes of Joseph by Anthony Fedorov: Tech Week

Thu, Dec 2, 2010 5:54 PM by Anthony Fedorov

At last we are now rehearsing at the Ordway. Not that I didn’t enjoy rehearsing at our previous rehearsing space…I did. But now that we are finally on stage and there are all these seats that are just waiting to be filled with people, the butterflies start to come in, and not the nervous kind, the  "I’m excited" kind. I am ready to start.

Also, now that we are getting closer and closer to that opening night, I’ve been doing some press to help promote the show. I’ve done some TV interviews, newspaper interviews, as well as performances around town.

Just a few days ago, I performed at the lighting of the Christmas tree ceremony in Rice Park, which is right next to the Ordway. I sang “Any Dream Will Do”. I got up there with my flip cam and filmed the crowd cheering. That was fun. You can see this performance in a video I'll post to the blog soon. Then I participated in the Holidazzle Parade. I stood on a float and waived as I was passing by. What surprised me the most was the amount of people who came out to see the parade in this freezing weather. But I was told that this parade has been a tradition here for a long time so it was great to see so many people there. Even though I could not feel my hands or feet or anything pretty much, I had a blast.

I also found out that there is a bus that is completely wrapped with Joseph. That’s cool!!!!! I took a picture next it (see below!)

It’s really great to see everyone in their costumes because now I really get to see how the characters come out. This is a very talented cast so the overall picture just keeps growing more and more.

I am going to be wearing a different wig this time around. It will make me look a bit more rigid than in previous productions and I like that. At the end of this week, we will be rehearsing with the orchestra for the first time. I can’t for that. There is nothing better than a live orchestra!

I took some pics of my outfits so you guys get an idea of what I am wearing in the show (again stay tuned in to this blog to see them in the next few days).

The first preview is on the 7th. This show is going to be great.

Until next time, Joseph signing off…:)
