
Hands-on workshops with Twin Cities artists that take place in downtown Saint Paul's Landmark Center during Festival week. All workshops are one hour and cost just $3 per student with ticket to a Festival performance.
Heart of the Dance: Fancy Dancing presented by Young Audiences
Work with championship Fancy Dancer Larry Yazzie to learn the basic forms and steps of the high-energy Fancy Dance. The workshop will end with a traditional round dance in which students can express themselves through their newly created dance steps!

West African and Hip-Hop Dance Connections
Students will compare contemporary American hip-hop dance moves to traditional West African dance moves through this experiential dance workshop led by Edna Stevens-Talton of Universal Dance Destiny.

Indian Katha Dance: A Rhythm of Joy presented by Young Audiences
Students will learn how to interpret stories and perform intricate footwork in this creative opportunity to enhance both dance and mathematical skills through a traditional Indian dance form.

SteppingStone Theatre's Mask-Making Workshops
Mixed-Up Beasts
Students will mix-up different animals to create masks for mixed-up beasts like the Bumblebeaver, Kangarooster, or the Camelelephant! Take out your imagination and hop/fly away!

African Masks
Focusing on the importance of masks in African culture, students will analyze different examples and then create their own mask out of cardboard, raffia, and imagination.

Schubert Club's Indonesian Gamelan
Discover a fascinating musical tradition with this mostly percussion orchestra from Java. Students take off their shoes and sit cross-legged to play a variety of rhythmic patterns on large hanging gongs, metal-bar instruments, and rows of pot-shaped gongs!

Taiko Drumming
Learn the techniques and history of taiko drumming with taiko performing artist and instructor Sara Dejoras. Students will get the opportunity to play on a taiko practice drum!
