ARTwalk Curator (2012)

Status: Temporary, exempt

Salary: Commensurate with Experience

Hours/Length of Assignment: Spring 2012. Curator is asked to begin working on average 5 hours per week in January to begin orienting and determining needs and connecting with schools and site specific installations. Time investment dependent upon ability and work plans-Artwork arrives the last week of February and must be fully installed by May 4 opening. Curator is responsible for maintaining the installation and responsible for coordinating the breakdown of the installation, June 4-7 and return of artwork on designated days following the festival June 8 and 9, 2012

The Ordway, recognized as one of the U.S.’s leading not-for-profit performing arts centers, is home to a wide variety of performances throughout the year that encompass the finest in American musical theater, world music, dance, and vocal artists on its Music Theater and McKnight Theatre stages.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee in the documentation, reception and organization of incoming works of art.
  • Manage the preparation, mounting, placement and installation of works.
  • Manage Curator intern and volunteers when applicable and maintain communications with program administrators.
  • Responsible for documenting the placement of individual works for inclusion on a map.
  • Help coordinate the installation of the site specific installations and attend student panels when applicable
  • Collaborate with Ordway staff to maintain communications and relationships with ARTwalk constituency.
  • Will assist in the communication with participants and artists to determine delivery, pick up and any special project needs.
  • Must be available to maintain (May 4th-June 3th) and uninstall work after the festival (June 4th-7th) and be available for student pick up at Ordway Center (June 8th-9th, 10am-4pm).
  • Available for the Community Breakfast Installation and Breakfast- April 4th (3rd for the installation)
  • Available for the ARTwalk Party –May 2012 time and date TBD

Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge, Ability
Flexibility and determination. Self-starter with creative problem solving skills. Ability to work creatively to complete tasks on time and work independently to determine a work plan. Superior organizational skills.  Ability to initiate and follow through on several tasks simultaneously with attention to detail. Interest and experience in curatorial processes a plus, but not required. Ability to work with multiple personalities and communicate effectively.
