Title sponsor Flint Hills Resources helped children design sock puppets. Comcast recreated the Speed of Sound activity. Festival-goers also made Ewok Masks with the Science Museum of Minnesota and created paper bag animal puppets with the Humane Society for Companion Animals. Travelers explored the science of rain through a rain cycle bracelet making activity with assistance from the Bakken Museum. With TARGET, visitors illustrated their own bucket hats.
Visitors also created hats with ArtiCulture and ArtStart, while with the Minnesota Center for Book Arts and Minneapolis Public Schools, they made artist books. Children enjoyed exploring various musical elements and made Pitch-o-Meters with The Minnesota Opera, The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, The Schubert Club, and The Saint Paul Conservatory of Music. Continuing to explore their sense of hearing, visitors made Soundwalk Maps with the American Composers Forum, at the Sonic Playground K-12 Public Art tent, sponsored by Delta Dental. The Children’s Theater, had creativity flying high with colorful kites.
Count of Monte Christo hats and Flags were made with the help of Minnesota Centennial Showboat and Saint Paul Public Library. While Teatro del Pueblo’s giant paper flowers were blooming with joy. Festival goers created Button Bursts of color with Ordway Circle of Stars and pipe cleaner creatures with Young Audiences of Minnesota. Mardi Gras masks created with Young Artists Initiative gave guests something to celebrate and Steppingstone Theatre also led children in fun-filled mask making activities.
Guests imagined traveling north with the Consulate General of Canada as they made passports to Canada and made State on a Stick Hats with the Minnesota Historical Society. Children made beautiful butterflies or mariposas hermosas in Spanish with Saint Paul Public Schools and Saint Paul/Manzanillo Sister City.
Finger printing was a favorite among many in the VSA Arts of Minnesota tent. Children enjoyed an energetic DJ at MELSA’s “Look What’s Cookin’ at your Library!” tent. Festival goers became Mad Scientists with Family Times when they took part in the Balancing Buddy activity. Lastly Minnesota Childrens Museum had guests turning into princes and princesses as they cooperatively colored a child size castle inside and out. |
