Children from across Minnesota are invited to submit original artwork for the 2008 Flint Hills International Children’s Festival ARTcontest. Artwork must incorporate the artist’s interpretation of the theme, MY MINNESOTA: a creative state of mind. This year’s theme is in celebration of the Minnesota sesquicentennial, 150 years of statehood. Young artists are encouraged to explore their own lives as Minnesotans. One entry per grade level will be selected and featured on the 2008 Festival Poster.
Need help incorporating this theme at home or in the classroom? Keep in mind that these are only suggestions and not required project themes. Be as creative as you can be!
What are your favorite things to do? What are your favorite places to visit?
Encourage students to learn about how others live and commune around the world. What makes Minnesota special? What distinguishes life in Minnesota?
150 years is a long time. Students can explore the history and development of the state and develop connections to their own lives.
Is Minnesota famous for anything? Special inventions, foods or events?
Parameters: Artworks must be two dimensional, unmated and unframed, with submission information affixed to the back.
