DRUM! is a spectacular musical production featuring twenty musicians, dancers, drummers, and singers from four founding cultures of Nova Scotia – Afro Canadian, Acadian, First Nation, and Celtic – brought together in a heart-pumping fusion of music, dance, poetry, video, rhythm, and song. DRUM! communicates a universal message: we can hold on to who we are and still share a song, a stage, a country, a world.
Public Performances:
Saturday, May 31, 11:00am & 2:00pm
Sunday, June 1, 2:00pm
Individual company members and the show’s producer also made personal connections with the Twin Cities’ artist community throughout the Festival week. Brookes Diamond, the show’s producer, spoke with fancy dancer Larry Yazzie, artist and educator Pat Welch, and students from Center School following their attendance of a tech rehearsal, about how the production came together. Two company members, Stuart and Hector, spoke with student interviewers from Frost Lake Magnet about their personal connection to DRUM!’s music and message. Both performers also joined local artists on the Festival grounds during the week’s activities, Stuart dancing with The Native Pride dancers on Target Alley and Hector leading the ARTmoved Parade with his bagpipe!
