ARTwalk Building Art—displayed on buildings around Rice Park
Highlighting the ever-growing visual portion of the Flint Hills International Children's Festival, students from International Academy LEAP, Webster Magnet, Nellie Stone Johnson and Crossroads Elementary schools helped adorn buildings surrounding Ordway Center and the Center itself with their own artistic creations. Huge pieces of art adorned The Saint Paul Hotel, Landmark Towers,Ordway Center, and Landmark Center so that a panoramic view from Rice Park captured bright, colorful buildings from all directions.
New for the 2008 Festival
Ordway Center for the Performing Arts has been given a gift from the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation fund at The Saint Paul Foundation for a project that involves Saint Paul Public Schools' International Academy LEAP High School. The grant supports participation of the I.A. LEAP in the Flint Hills International Children's Festival, through an all-school student field on May 30, 2008, and display of student artwork during the ARTwalk and on large vinyl displays hung on the outside of buildings. The large pieces of Building Art contain images of colorful I.A. LEAP student self-portraits, created in Jill Michell's art class. The pieces will be displayed during the Flint Hills International Children's Festival, joining the other pieces of Building Art that were designed by Ordway Center’s Jeanne Kosfeld from students’ original art work for previous Festivals.
