Garth Fagan Dance will present a whirlwind combination of dance, modern, Afro-Caribbean, and jazz complemented by the speed and precision of ballet. Be amazed as Garth Fagan dancers seem to defy gravity, changing direction in mid-air, and performing impossibly held balances.
“Once in awhile there comes a true dance original — a choreographer who breaks all, or at least most, of the rules, and creates a style, or, rarer, even a technique, all of his or her own. Just such an original is Garth Fagan”.
~ Clive Barnes, New York Post

ORDWAY CENTER SCHOOL PERFORMANCES FULFILL MINNESOTA ARTS STANDARDS |
| |
 |
Educators, are you looking for an opportunity to fulfill your Minnesota Academic Standards in the arts? Ordway Center’s Educational performances and complimentary study guides can provide the framework for engaging arts standards in your classroom.
For example, by attending a performance of Garth Fagan Dance and using the study guide, teachers can connect their curriculum to many Intermediate (4-5), Middle School (6-8), and High School (9-12) arts standards. Students will:
- Understand components of dance including elements of dance, principles of choreography, vocabulary, styles of dance, and choreography structures.
- Understand how dance elements are similar to other art forms.
- Evaluate a performance
- Understand cultural, historical, and traditional forms of dance.
- Communicate personal reactions of interpretations of existing works.
This is just an example of how teachers can easily connect Ordway Center’s Educational performances to their curriculum and fulfill their Minnesota Academic Standards in the arts.

On October 18th thousands of teachers flooded the 2007 Education Minnesota Conference and Ordway Center education staff was more than happy to greet them. Teachers received information about our education and community engagement opportunities along with information about Ordway Center’s Theater Season including teacher’s eligibility for rush tickets with their school’s ID.
